HOUGHTON, Mich. -- No. 14-ranked Minnesota Duluth broke open a close game with three third-period goals -- two from MacGregor Sharp -- to beat Michigan Tech 4-1 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association men's game at MacInnes Student Ice Arena tonight.

The teams exchanged power-play goals 65 seconds apart in the first period and the game stayed 1-1 until Sharp connected on a power play at 3:58 of the third period. Senior Andrew Carroll added a short-handed goal with 92 seconds to play and Sharp got an empty-net score with 40 seconds to go.

UMD (16-9-6 overall, 10-8-5 WCHA) outshot Michigan Tech 25-22. UMD goalie Alex Stalock was sharp, especially in the first period. The Huskies (5-22-6, 1-18-6) now have an 11-game winless streak at 0-7-4.
