Closures extended in Chippewa National Forest

Chippewa National Forest officials have extended the closure of several recreation sites and trails in the wake of a destructive windstorm that swept across the area on July 2.

Chippewa National Forest officials have extended the closure of several recreation sites and trails in the wake of a destructive windstorm that swept across the area on July 2.

The areas affected are in northern Cass and southwestern Itasca counties. They include:

  • Norway Beach Recreation Area near Cass Lake, including Forest Road 2005 from U.S. Highway 2 north to the Wanaki Campground loop.
  • South Pike Bay Campground near Cass Lake.
  • Winnie Campground and Picnic Area on the west shore of Lake Winnibi- goshish.

  • Tamarack Point Campground on the east side of Lake Winnibigoshish.
  • Portions of the Migizi Bike Trail along Pike Bay.
  • The Soo Line Trail from the Pike Bay area eastward to County Road 8 north of Federal Dam. Closures will remain in effect until further notice. For more information on closures, call the forest supervisor's office at (218)
