A Cloquet city employee discovered the body of a southern Minnesota man on the east end of Dunlap Island in Cloquet Tuesday morning.

Police believe 34-year-old Marc Kenneth Blomberg died by suicide.

His body was found at approximately 10:30 a.m., near some rocks, according to Derek Randall, Cloquet Police detective. A 9mm semi-automatic pistol reportedly lay near him, and his car was parked in the parking lot nearby.

Minnesota authorities were trying to locate the man whose driver's license listed his home as Warsaw, Minn., a town approximately 45 miles south of the Twin Cities. He reportedly had left his house at 6 a.m. Monday telling someone he was going to pawn a gun and did not return home.

"Authorites were concerned about his welfare and we were notified after he made an ATM transaction in Cloquet around 3 p.m.," Randall said.

Cloquet officers had no contact with Blomberg until his body was found.

Blomberg was arrested in Polk County, Wis., over the weekend for theft, criminal damage to property and resisting arrest, according to Randall.

"We don't know if he has any link to Cloquet," he said.

By the time Blomberg's body was found he had been dead for several hours, but an exact time of death was not yet known, according to Randall.
