City prepares for blizzard

A full shift of snowplowing crews were scheduled for duty at 6 p.m. today in anticipation of tonight's blizzard, according to the Duluth city communications office.

A full shift of snowplowing crews were scheduled for duty at 6 p.m. today in anticipation of tonight's blizzard, according to the Duluth city communications office.

The Duluth Fire Department is stationing staff at outlying locations to provide emergency service if travel becomes difficult from main stations. Four snowmobiles also are available for emergency travel. The Fire Department also has access to a trail groomer to escort emergency vehicles if required.

The Duluth Police Department will switch to all four-wheel-drive vehicles after the storm starts.

City officials warn that road closures, including the Aerial Bridge and access to Park Point, may be announced if conditions warrant.
