City of Duluth utilities crews were dispatched to the Lakeside neighborhood at midday today for a report of water spilling onto the roadway at 47th Avenue East, Superior and McCulloch streets near Sammy's Pizza. near Sammy's Pizza. The crews were assessing where a water main break occurred and how to fix it.

Drivers are warned that the streets in the area will be slick despite attempts to plow frozen water.

Marcos Delgado, a Sammy's employee, said a manhole popped and water bubbled onto the street just after 11 a.m. Shortly after, another manhole popped, he said.

Water ran down McCulloch and onto Superior Street, where unsuspecting drivers drove into the wet and freezing mess.

"Water was splashing on the poor workers," Delgado said. "It's quite a mess."
