The People's Climate March takes place in New York City on Sunday, Sept. 21. The event is to communicate widespread demand for action to world leaders who gather for the United Nations Climate Summit two days later, on Sept. 23. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is urging governments to support an ambitious global agreement to reduce pollution.

Several congregations and regional faith teams have joined to organize a local version of the march. The Duluth Climate Hike will be a mile long around the Lake Superior Zoo, on the Superior Hiking Trail and Kingsbury Creek. These trails continue to show evidence of the local dramatic weather event, the 2012 flood. Prayers by children and their family members will be recorded and sent to the national event in New York City in real time.

The hike starts 1:30 p.m. at the Kingsbury Creek trailhead. Parking is in the zoo lot at 72nd Avenue West and Fremont Street. The event lasts until 3 p.m.

Prior to the hike, participants are encouraged to watch the online film "Disruption" at www.watchdisruption.com .
