Community concerts
* Arrowhead Chorale holiday performances are Thursday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ironwood Theatre in Ironwood, Mich.; Friday, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet; Saturday, Dec. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Superior; and Sunday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Music Center. * The 21st annual Handel's "Messiah Sing-Along" is Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium at the College of St. Scholastica. Admission is free. Call 723-6000 for details.
* The Sacred Heart Music Center presents Britten's "Ceremony of Carols" and Rutter's "Gloria" with the Arrowhead Chorale on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10. Call 723-1895 for details.
* Fairlawn Mansion in Superior will present a series of concerts which are free and open to the public at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 12 and 19, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. on Dec. 8-9, 15-16 and 22-23. * The College of St. Scholastica will have a Christmas Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium. Call 723-6000 for details.
* UMD's University Singers, Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers and Instrumental Ensembles will present "Sounds of the Season" at Pilgrim Congregational Church on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. Also, the UMD Symphony Orchestra Holiday Concert is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Marshall Performing Arts Center. * The John Duss Choral Society will present its 20th Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1710 E. Superior St., on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. Choral Society Director Sister Bernardone Rock has selected a variety of traditional Christmas carols, including several arrangements by John Rutter and an original carol by American composer William Billings.
Audience members join the choir for many verses of the carols. Admission is $10.
