A 71-year-old Chisholm man sustained life-threatening injuries when the vehicle he was driving struck a car crossing U.S. Highway 169 in Hibbing, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

Donavan Harry Thronson was driving south on Highway 169 shortly after 11:30 a.m. when Arlene Mae Kotonias, 85, of Hibbing, crossed Highway 169 on East 31st Street.

The front end of Thronson's vehicle struck the passenger side of Kotonias' vehicle. Both were transported to Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing. Kotonias suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said.

The road was wet at the time of the crash, the State Patrol said.

Both Thronson and Kotonias were wearing seat belts, and alcohol was not involved, the State Patrol said.
