Temperatures fell to near 30 below zero in some areas of the Northland on Sunday morning, with Embarrass the cold spot at 29 below.
International Falls reported a morning low of 28 below zero, and the Duluth airport dropped to 13 below zero.
The record low for March 17 is 15 below zero at Duluth and 33 below zero at International Falls.
Last year, Duluth reached a high of 75 degrees on March 17, a record for the date. And a year ago today, International Falls reached 79 degrees -- its record high for the entire month of March.
