MORA, Minn. - Charges were filed this week against a 19-year-old man from Princeton, Minn., accused of leading police on a high-speed chase Saturday morning.
Alan Hanna faces seven charges for the chase which started in Mora and ended south of Two Harbors. The most serious charges are fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and obstruct legal process-interfere with a peace officer. Both are punishable by five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
The criminal complaint states the chase reach speeds as high as 120 mph. Hanna communicated with Pine County during the chase via cell phone. He said he wanted to commit suicide "by taking out a vehicle such as a semi-truck."
The pursuit came to an end when Hanna's vehicle went off Highway 61, went onto the median, crashed into the Knife River and came to rest on the north bank of the median.
Hanna remains hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries suffered in the crash.
