The Duluth Area Catholic School System has a new coordinator.
Former Duluth school district employee Mary Ann Rotundi has been hired for the newly created position meant to provide leadership to the five Duluth-area schools in the diocese.
"We've always visualized someone being coordinator for Duluth Catholic schools," said Cynthia Zook, director of schools for the entire Duluth Diocese, which consists of 12 schools.
The diocese is ready to have someone take the lead on a new strategic plan for schools that was recently adopted by the Duluth Area Catholic School Board, Zook said, and Rotundi will oversee that along with educational policies. She will act as a superintendent to Holy Rosary, St. James, St. John the Evangelist and St. Michael's Lakeside in Duluth and St. Rose School in Proctor. She will coordinate with principals and pastors.
Rotundi has 43 years of education experience with Duluth Public Schools, including as supervisor of federal programs, specialist for gifted and talented curriculum, assistant principal and first- and second-grade teacher. She also is the religious education director for St. James Catholic Church.
