Carey claims Burrito Union Triathlon

Mark Carey of Rochester, Minn., won the inaugural Burrito Union 10-Hour Triathlon on Saturday at Pattison Park in Superior. The event -- a 1/3-mile swim, 14-mile bike and 3.1-mile run -- was repeated by entrants within a 10-hour time limit.

The event began at 7:30 a.m., and no race attempt could start after 5:30 p.m.

Carey, 36, finished the triathlon distance seven times for a total time of 8 hours, 53 minutes, 42 seconds. David Eckburg, 35, of Loves Park, Ill., also completed seven laps in 10:54:12, while Travis Snaza, 35, of Brooklyn Center, Minn., finished seven laps in 11:37:21.

The top women's finisher was Jamie Heying, 38, of Plymouth, Minn., with six laps in 9:53:01. The top Northland finisher was Mark Howard, 48, of Superior with six laps in 10:26:23.

Winning teams were: two-men, Rhett Bonner and David Pipho; and two-women, Kati Bono and Audrey Weber.
