Two adults and four children were evacuated from a four-plex in the Endion neighborhood Friday evening after a carbon monoxide alarm sounded.

The Duluth Fire Department said they responded at 8:23 p.m. to 1829 E. Second St. Carbon monoxide levels as high as 332 parts per million were measured in the utility room, where a possible plugged oil water heater flue may have caused the problem.

Two of the four apartments were found to have dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide.

The two adults and two of the children were transported to a local hospital by Gold Cross ambulance for further medical assessment, the Fire Department news release said.

This incident is an example of how carbon monoxide detectors can save lives, the news release said. If the detector had not provided a warning, the result likely would have been tragic.
