Bygones: More indictments in Duluth's lynching case

  • Five new indictments charging murder in the first degree were returned yesterday by the special district grand jury investigating the June 15 lynchings. Of the 11 men thus far indicted, ten are alleged to have been implicated in the lynching of Isaac McGhie.
  • Employees of the Duluth Street Railway Company yesterday demanded a wage increase of 20%. Herbert Warren, vice-president and general manager of the company, said that based on the current five-cent fare, the company is already paying workers more than it can afford.
  • A storm yesterday dumped an inch of rain on downtown Duluth in 15 minutes, flooding streets with six inches of water in some places. The Northern Pacific Railroad yards were flooded with water from two inches to four feet deep.
  • The Pathfinder car of the Minnesota Automobile Association will arrive in Duluth from Minneapolis at about 4 p.m. today. The association is completing arrangements for its annual tour from Minneapolis to Duluth on July 23, which is expected to consist of about 100 automobiles.
