Nearly 500 Superior public school system employees will not receive their paychecks today because a delay in the receipt of about $1.7 million in state aid has left the Board of Education short of cash.
A triangular piece of weed-covered land at 45th Avenue East and Glenwood Street has been transformed into a garden by the volunteer efforts of the Lakeview Garden Club. Plants were donated by the Lester Park Greenhouse. News Tribune

A federal bankruptcy judge in New York yesterday ruled that Reserve Mining should be awarded to the mostly non-union Cyprus Minerals Co. for its bid of $52 million. Steelworker union officials expressed anger over the decision.
State Rep. Willard Munger, credited with initiating a state environmental trust fund authorized by voters last fall, was defeated yesterday in a bid to head the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources, which determines how the trust fund is spent.
