* Duluth’s Rustic Bar beat Chuck Wagon America 3-0 yesterday for the championship in the Classic Division of the Waltman-Tessier Memorial softball tournament at Wheeler Field. Sue Rendulich pitched for Rustic and also scored their third run with a triple in the sixth inning.
* A tornado hit the Bigfork area last evening, demolishing a trailer home and injuring its occupant. There were several reports of a funnel-shaped cloud around the Miller Hill Mall, but Duluth police did not spot a tornado in the area.

* In their first debate last evening at Denfeld High School, the four major candidates for mayor of Duluth also got a chance to hear comments from residents. The candidates are Neill Atkins, Herb Bergson, David Wheeler and incumbent Gary Doty.
* The area of the Saganaga fire, which burned for nearly two weeks, is now open to visitors. The fire, which started from an unattended campfire, burned nearly 13,000 acres in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Ontario’s Quetico Provincial Park.
