Duluth teachers have approved a two-year contract retroactive to July 1977 which raises salaries 4.7 percent for the current school year, which starts tomorrow. Union officials say many of the district's 1,120 teachers feel the increase is too small.

At a recent meeting of the Park Point Community Club, members told stories of speeding cars and motorcycles, drunk or drinking drivers, and property damage. Club members are asking the city to close the park during late evenings to help alleviate the problems.

Brad Bennett of Duluth said yesterday he is developing a proposal to berth the Navy cruiser USS Des Moines at an industrial site on Duluth's waterfront. Bennett said he has no specific sites in mind but is looking in West Duluth.

The union representing Douglas County deputies and jailers has voted "no confidence" in Sheriff Larry McDonald. The vote came five days before the primary election in which McDonald is seeking his second two-year term against several opponents.
