  • Mrs. Mabel Grace Merritt, 97, a member of the pioneer Merritt family, died this weekend in a Duluth nursing home. Mrs. Merritt's husband was the late Lon C. Merritt, the son of Lucien F. Merritt, one of the Seven Iron Men.

  • Work is continuing in efforts to restore a section of Amity Creek that was damaged last May by city of Duluth employees excavating along its banks. The city, the DNR and the Boy Scouts have been working to restore the creek.
  • Members of the Duluth Citizens Utility Board Alliance have turned in the required 1,683 signatures to put a trash-rate-control amendment on the November ballot. The City Clerk's office will count and verify the petition signatures and report to the Charter Commission.
