  • Minnesota Gov. Wendell Anderson yesterday recommended to President Nixon that Duluth's federal disaster declaration be extended to cover this week's new flooding.
  • The M.L. Hibbard Steam Electric Station in Duluth will be converted from the burning of coal to burning residual oil, Minnesota Power & Light Co. representatives announced yesterday. The company will spend about $2.5 million on the conversion.

  • The Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board last night approved a revolving loan program to assist the state's troubled taconite industry. The plan will offer up to $2 million to each of seven operating taconite plants.
  • Duluth city officials will soon decide if supporters of a proposed Citizens Utility Board have collected enough signatures to get their petition on the Nov. 3 election ballot. The City Charter would need to be amended to establish the board.
