  • Dust-control equipment that will improve air quality has been ordered for installation at U.S. Steel's Duluth cement plant, a spokesman said yesterday. The project is part of a $1.5 million program of improvements at the corporation's Duluth steel and cement plants.
  • Members of Duluth's Palestine Masonic Lodge No. 79 will celebrate the lodge's 100th anniversary next weekend with a dinner and program at the Arena Auditorium. The lodge was granted the first charter in Northeastern Minnesota in 1870. Sept. 20, 1990

  • Beginning Jan. 1, one of two Arrowhead Library System bookmobiles will be eliminated because of budget cuts and a reduction in use. The list of bookmobile stops across the seven-county-region will be cut by half.
  • Initial work for opening Inland Steel's new Laurentian Mine near Gilbert should begin this week. The new mine, which will replace the Minorca Mine, is expected to extend Inland's life on the Iron Range by at least 40 years.
