Fifty-four percent of the 400 persons questioned in a recent Duluth public schools survey said they want neighborhood schools preserved regardless of the cost. The school board will study the survey results in designing a five-year plan for the district.

The Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway is holding an open house in Two Harbors this weekend to show off its new $35 million taconite storage and loading facility. Free train rides through the railroad's yards will allow the public to view the new facility.

Sept. 17, 1998

A lawsuit by Duluthian Eric Ringsred has temporarily stopped A & L Development from demolishing any structures on East Superior Street to make way for the Duluth Technology Village. Ringsred said yesterday the project would destroy Old Downtown's future as a historic district.

Beckley-Cardy Group's new owner announced yesterday that it will close its downtown Duluth customer service center as part of a companywide consolidation plan. That means 53 employees will be out of jobs beginning Dec. 4, although some may relocate within the company.
