  • Fire early this morning caused $14,000 in damage to a residence at 708 S. 23rd Ave. E. in Duluth. Three UMD students were slightly injured when they had to jump from a second-story window to escape the blaze.
  • The Minnesota delegation to the Great Lakes Commission meeting in Buffalo, N.Y., yesterday requested a bubbler system be installed in the Duluth-Superior harbor to extend the shipping season. A small bubbler system was successfully tested last winter in Duluth. News Tribune

  • A News Tribune poll conducted last week gives Mayor John Fedo a slight lead over challenger Gary Doty in Duluth's mayoral race. Fedo was favored by 38.6 percent of those polled and Doty by 35.7 percent, with 25.7 percent undecided.
