Duluth City Councilman Lewis M. Latto Jr. said yesterday the council has agreed on a compromise sign ordinance that should be adopted early in November. The ordinance has been in the planning stages for three years or more.

Officials of Goldfine's Inc. of Duluth last night announced plans to build a large department store in Fargo, N.D. The facility will be the largest discount department store in North Dakota, according to Erwin and Manley Goldfine. News Tribune

NBC-TV's "Unsolved Mysteries" crew this weekend re-enacted the fatal 1982 Lake Superior cruise of Larry and Debbie Race for a segment of the program to air in early December. The filming took place at Island Lake.

The Environmental Protection Agency's research vessel, the Lake Guardian, will stop in Duluth on Oct. 21 during its Great Lakes tour.
