Contractors working at U.S. Steel Corp.'s Minntac plant in Mountain Iron are threatening legal action against picketing steelworkers who have been blocking the plant's construction entrance. Minntac Steelworkers Local 1938 officials have denied any participation in the blockade.
A proposal to build a $2 million convention center at Spirit Mountain ran into opposition last night at the Duluth City Council agenda session. Several councilors said they have had an unfavorable reaction to the plan from constituents.

The Duluth City Council voted yesterday to cut funding of the Community Action Program next year by $95,000 amid questions about inefficiency and poor work at the agency. It has been costing CAP twice as much to insulate homes here as compared to the state average.
City councilors last night decided to table a plan that would give Duluth property owners less time to clear snow from their sidewalks and fewer warnings before the city does it and charges them. The plan was tabled until Nov. 10.
