Nineteen leases have been signed for the new shopping arcade now nearing completion in Duluth's Lyric Block. Officials said yesterday about half of the available area of 69,925 square feet on both levels of the facility has been rented.
The play "Gigi," a Cinderella story with a twist, will open the 64th season of the Duluth Playhouse this week in the new theater at the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center. The play stars Kathy Leek Plattner as Gigi.

Thirty-six sinks and drinking fountains in Duluth public schools need to be replaced this fall because they contribute unacceptable levels of lead to water. School officials found the problems after testing all of the nearly 2,000 fixtures in schools this summer.
Homecroft third-grade teacher Dale Rogers yesterday was named a Milken Family Foundation National Educator and was awarded $25,000. Rogers, a native of Superior, was speechless when Minnesota Lt. Gov. Joanne Benson announced the honor in Homecroft's gymnasium.
