The Boundary Waters Conservation Alliance is organizing a telegram campaign urging President Carter not to sign the recently passed BWCA bill. Alliance officials expect Carter will receive hundreds of telegrams from Northeastern Minnesota residents objecting to restrictions in the current bill.

In an effort to ease the effects of increasing natural gas rates, several Duluth councilors want to reduce money transferred from the gas division budget to the general fund. The money not transferred would be used to defray rate hikes to the public.

About 200 people attended a "Stand Up for Steel" rally yesterday at Mesabi Range College in Virginia. The rally drew steelworkers, union leaders, lawmakers, taconite company managers, community leaders, and Iron Range residents concerned about the influx of low-priced foreign steel.

This summer, an estimated 60,000 visitors toured Glensheen, the historic estate on Duluth's London Road, according to Director Bill Miller. Miller says the mansion is turning an economic corner, with attendance up 17 percent and a deficit of less than $75,000.
