Sen. Edward Kennedy, campaigning in Eveleth yesterday for Sen. Wendell Anderson, said candidates should not be judged on a single issue. The issue that has most hurt Anderson in Northeastern Minnesota is his support of a bill restricting use of motors in the BWCA.

Duluth Mayor Robert Beaudin yesterday announced appointment of an advisory committee to assist in filling vacancies on city boards and commissions. The committee will solicit and review applications and recommend appointments with the objective of broadening citizen representation on the boards.

Duluth Federation of Teachers officials expect to file an intent to strike notice next week unless a contract settlement with the school district is reached. The district's 1,000 teachers have been working without a contract for 16 months.

Harborview Homes, Copeland Community Center, and the Duluth Police Department will all benefit from a $374,400 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant is intended to combat the use of drugs in public housing.
