The U.S. Senate late yesterday unanimously approved a compromise Boundary Waters Canoe Area bill presented by Sen. Wendell Anderson. The compromise is supported by most environmental groups but is bitterly opposed by the Boundary Waters Conservation Alliance from Northeastern Minnesota.
Residents of Duluth's Oneota neighborhood are taking a wait-and-see attitude toward changes brought about by the I-35 freeway. The freeway has meant increased industrialization of the neighborhood, a pocket of West Duluth between Grand Avenue, the waterfront, Wade Stadium, and Shoppers City.

As a wrecking ball slammed into Duluth's Pastoret-Stenson Building yesterday, it drew shouts and applause from hundreds watching below. The lunch-hour crowd came to watch the long-awaited demolition of the five buildings standing in the path of the proposed Duluth Technology Village building.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation yesterday released results from their "Motion Imaging Recording System" that takes photographs of cars running red lights. Set up at two busy Hermantown intersections, the survey showed fewer motorists running red lights there than elsewhere in the state.
