Negotiators for Pickands Mather & Co. and the United Steelworkers of America will return to the bargaining table tomorrow in Hotel Duluth to try to resolve issues of a 71-day strike. Pickands Mather is the operating agent for Erie Mining and Hibbing Taconite.
There will be a partial eclipse of the sun visible in Duluth this week. According to Donald Jackson of UMD, the sun will appear to be notched slightly by the moon, which will cover about nine percent of the sun.

St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputy David Akerson was honored yesterday by President Clinton as a "top cop" in the Rose Garden of the White House. Akerson was one of 18 law enforcement officers honored for bravery in the line of duty.
American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, announced plans yesterday to offer new nonstop jet service between Duluth and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. American Eagle plans to offer three daily round-trip flights to Chicago using 50-seat Embraer EMB-145 regional jets.
