Coho salmon are showing up in good numbers along the North Shore, the Department of Natural Resources has reported. Schools of salmon have been sighted in several places but seem more concentrated near the mouths of streams and rivers.

West End businessmen will mark the opening of a new municipal parking lot with a three-day celebration this week. Business owners expect a surge in customers with the new lot and the opening next month of Interstate 35 through the area. News Tribune

The Duluth City Council and the St. Louis and Carlton County boards all recently passed resolutions supporting efforts to post fish consumption advisories at boat landings along the St. Louis River. Carlton County has already posted warning signs on the river.

Amid growing criticism of rising garbage rates, Western Lake Superior Sanitary District officials said yesterday that landfill disposal fees won't increase in 1992.
