  • The Minnesota Civil Liberties Union reported yesterday that hospitals in Grand Rapids, Cook and Eveleth are refusing to perform abortions despite rulings from the courts. Matthew Stark, MCLU executive director, said in Duluth that the hospitals’ refusal to perform abortions is unconstitutional.
  • Dan Hudson, former director of area and public relations for the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce, was honored yesterday at a retirement party in Hotel Duluth. Hudson, who retired Nov. 4, had been with the chamber for 23 years.

  • Owners of Duluth’s Lake Superior Brewing Co. in the Fitger’s Brewery Complex are awaiting final federal approvals that will allow them to start selling their beer. The microbrewery marks the first commercial brewing of beer in Duluth since 1972.
