- Duluth residents would be paying 13 percent more for water in 1977 under a budget proposed by the city Water and Gas Department. Much of the increase in water rates is due to costs associated with operating the new filtration plant.
- Residents of Duluth’s West End may soon find relief from heavy trucks driving on residential streets because of a proposed ordinance prohibiting trucks from designated city streets. Unlike some cities, Duluth does not have an ordinance designating truck routes.

- Sammy’s Pizza at 103 W. First St. in Duluth is celebrating its 40th birthday this week. Sam Perella Sr. opened the business in 1956 after starting the first pizzeria in Hibbing, and there are now 18 Sammy’s restaurants in the Midwest.
