A two-story home that fell through the ice of Chequamegon Bay March 2 should be on land by noon today. Crews have worked all week to pull the house and a semi-trailer truck from the water about a mile from Madeline Island.
Duluth city councilors asked the city administration yesterday to study whether limits on future development on Minnesota Point should be adopted. Councilors' concerns are with the fire department's ability to handle large fires like the one at Industrial Welders & Machinists this week.

The Lake Superior Center is looking at ways to raise enough money to break ground this summer. Officials of the $33.8 million freshwater aquarium had hoped to break ground this month, but they have run into unexpected delays in getting state money.
Unless Congress allocates more money, the Superior National Forest may substantially reduce the number of trees it sells to loggers in the future. The U.S. Forest Service expects a 32 percent reduction in the number of trees sold next year.
