  • A $2,500 reward fund has been established for the apprehension and conviction of persons connected with recent deer killings near Virginia. Contributions have come from various snowmobile clubs, business firms and private individuals.
  • Members of Local 659 of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union yesterday rejected a new offer to settle their nine-week-old strike at the Continental Oil Co. Wrenshall refinery. Members voted 54-35 against accepting the offer. News Tribune

  • Top officials from the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission met with Iron Range lawmakers yesterday at the Capitol in an attempt to halt efforts to abolish the Duluth-based planning and development agency. The ARDC was formed by the Legislature in 1969.
  • Keyboard-player David Sigel, a 25-year-old Duluth native, has been hired to play with Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, one of the music industry's hottest groups. The band is on a nationwide tour that stopped last weekend in Minneapolis.
