  • A Minnesota Pollution Control Agency official said yesterday the state and U.S. Steel have made progress in attempting to resolve pollution control differences over the company's Duluth plant. He said the talks may be concluded in a matter of weeks.
  • The annual Duluth school police picnic will be held today at the Duluth Zoo, Patrolman William J. Kehoe, director of the School Police Patrol, announced yesterday. About 900 youngsters will be treated to rides, lunch and prizes. News Tribune

  • A waterspout on Lake Superior about three miles off the Duluth entry yesterday afternoon lifted up charter fishing boats and sucked water 20 feet into the air.
