  • A cause had not yet been determined yesterday for the weekend fire at the West End Liquor Store and Beck's Furniture Store in Duluth, which resulted in an estimated $125,000 in damage. Six units battled the blaze for most of the afternoon.
  • An oil painting of the old Duluth Central High School was presented to Dr. James L. Cavanaugh, school principal, yesterday by the class of 1949. The painting, by local artist Jo Kossett, will be displayed in the new Central school. June 28, 1990

  • There was standing room only in the Hermantown City Council chambers last night as residents voiced their opinions on the hiring of a city administrator. Councilors have been discussing the issue for about a year.
  • Workers from Maust Fiber Fuels Inc. have hauled away 60,000 tires that weren't burned in an April fire at a tire dump near Wawina. Arson is suspected in the April 19 fire that burned nearly 300,000 tires.
