  • More than $9 million for counties and communities in Minnesota's 8th Congressional District is included in revenue-sharing legislation passed by the House of Representatives yesterday. The funds are to be used for public safety and environmental services.

  • The Duluth Police Department's expanded waterfront patrol yesterday received gifts of an all-terrain vehicle and two mountain bikes. The donations will enable officers to get around faster on the Lakewalk, in Canal Park, and on the Park Point beach.
  • Northwest Airlines, fighting to stay competitive in the midst of an airline industry fare war, announced yesterday it will lay off 110 pilots as a cost-cutting move.
