More than $9 million for counties and communities in Minnesota's 8th Congressional District is included in revenue-sharing legislation passed by the House of Representatives yesterday. The funds are to be used for public safety and environmental services.

The Duluth Police Department's expanded waterfront patrol yesterday received gifts of an all-terrain vehicle and two mountain bikes. The donations will enable officers to get around faster on the Lakewalk, in Canal Park, and on the Park Point beach.

Northwest Airlines, fighting to stay competitive in the midst of an airline industry fare war, announced yesterday it will lay off 110 pilots as a cost-cutting move.
