  • Plans for construction of student housing on city-owned land at College Street and Missouri Avenue have been canceled. The proposal called for construction of five three-story buildings containing a total of 50 double-occupancy units renting for $75 to $100 a month.
  • Boise Cascade Corp. yesterday announced a $2,246,000 construction program for pollution abatement facilities that would enable its International Falls mills to meet the water-quality standards of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Work is also under way on reducing industrial air pollution. News Tribune

  • Yesterday's noon grand opening at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center featured speeches by Mayor John Fedo, state Sen. Sam Solon, and Robert Heimbach, DECC governing board chairman. Solon called the facility one of the most beautiful convention centers in the nation.
  • Hedstrom Lumber Co. in Grand Marais will begin a $1.15 million expansion in September after the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board's approval of a loan last night. The expansion will create 10 jobs at the burgeoning forest-products firm.
