  • Although delayed this spring by labor difficulties and inclement weather, work on Duluth's massive freeway system is nearing completion. By late next year, motorists should be able to drive on Interstate 35 from Boundary Avenue straight through to downtown Duluth.
  • Someone decided to observe the Fourth of July holiday by dumping a quantity of detergent into the Civic Center fountain, city of Duluth officials said yesterday. The result was knee-deep suds near the fountain and down Fifth Avenue West. July 5, 1990

  • Large crowds gathered at Bayfront Park yesterday to participate in various activities to celebrate the Fourth of July. The band Three Dog Night performed as part of the evening festivities.
  • Use of Minnesota's new gambling hot line is expected to increase soon as exposure to legal gambling increases, said Betty George, director of the Minnesota Council on Compulsive Gambling. Three to four callers a week seek help from George's Duluth office.
