* Six-hundred Hermantown residents met yesterday to plan a counterattack on the threat of annexation by the city of Duluth. They are concerned that the Minnesota Municipal Commission may approve Duluth’s request to annex a part of the town.
* The Duluth City Council last night approved the hiring of planning firm Harland Bartholomew and Associates for the first step in a business district renewal project. The firm will provide an inventory of downtown Duluth properties, businesses and building management.

* The brakes were faulty on the dump truck that caused an eight-vehicle collision in downtown Duluth this week, a state inspector reported yesterday. The investigation into the accident resulted in citations for alleged federal safety violations against the truck’s owner.
* Induction ceremonies will be held this morning honoring former Minnesota Vikings coach Bud Grant and five others at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. A bronze bust of Grant will be presented and displayed at the hall.
