  • The 59-year-old elementary school building in Grand Marais has been condemned by the state fire marshal because of structural hazards. The Grand Marais School Board is negotiating with area churches to provide facilities for an estimated 200 pupils this fall.
  • Under a tentative plan being considered for the new UMD Medical School, students would spend two years in medical school and two years in residency in cooperating hospitals. At the conclusion of the residency, the student would get his medical degree. News Tribune

  • The fourth annual Viking Fest was held yesterday in Bayfront Festival Park to raise money for restoration of the Viking ship replica in Leif Erikson Park. So far, about $30,000 has been raised from the four festivals.
