The Duluth Transit Authority yesterday resumed negotiations with striking drivers and mechanics, but the talks didn't bring the two sides any nearer to a settlement. The union is seeking an hourly pay raise as well as a cost-of-living escalator clause.
A lawsuit to prevent construction of the I-35 freeway extension past downtown Duluth is planned by the group "Stop the Freeway." The group is conducting a citywide mail campaign to raise money needed for legal fees.

The Willard Munger Inn at 7408 Grand Ave. in Duluth has been put up for sale by Will Munger, Jr. His father, state Rep. Willard Munger, built much of the motel himself in phases between 1954 and 1964.
After being discussed for 14 years, the Minnesota Shooting Sports Education Center could finally open this fall near Grand Rapids. There could be more delays, though, if construction bids are higher than the $2.2 million allotted by the Minnesota Legislature.
