* Clyde Iron Works Inc. will expand its plant at 29th Avenue West and Michigan Street instead of moving to the waterfront, company officials announced yesterday. The firm had plans last year to build a $4 million plant on the Duluth waterfront.
* Hermantown officials testified yesterday to the Minnesota Municipal Commission about their wish to change from a township to a city. An estimated 700 residents cheered and applauded the testimony at the meeting in the Hermantown High School gymnasium.

* Although Minnesota has spent $60 million and enrolled more than 70,000 people in its health insurance program, some experts say the problem of the uninsured is not getting better. They say more service-sector employers are not providing health insurance to their workers.
* Maxi Childs and Cyndi Heisick, both of Duluth, won the vocal group division at the Minnesota State Country Music Championship Festival this weekend at Hibbing High School. Childs was named Miss Minnesota Country Music.
