Feb. 8, 1979

A temporary restraining order was issued yesterday prohibiting pickets at the American Hoist & Derrick Co. plant in Duluth from any illegal activity. The company had requested the order earlier this week following a confrontation near the plant.

Some Duluth Township homeowners are asking the Duluth District Court to declare part of a recently approved land use plan illegal. The group argues that four of five light industrial zones created in the plan are incompatible with the surrounding residential property.

Dr. Anthony Baraga, a Hibbing area radiologist, is leading in the race for the seat on the University of Minnesota's Board of Regents from the 8th Congressional District. Other candidates are Fred Friedman and Tom Renier of Duluth and Frances Gardeski of Hibbing.

Candidates in Superior's mayoral race will participate in a forum tomorrow evening at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Mayor Margaret Ciccone and challengers Bill Andrews and Richard Van Rossem will be questioned by a panel led by Al Katz, UWS communicating arts professor.
