  • Census '70 officially opens on April 1 when thousands of census workers throughout the U.S. begin their house-to-house calls. In the 11-county 8th Congressional District in Northeastern Minnesota, 458 enumerators will be hired and trained by late March. Feb. 8, 1990

  • St. Louis County commissioners yesterday tentatively agreed to form a policy committee that would re-examine the county's plan for a proposed $15.8 million Duluth jail. The move was inspired by a recent recommendation by state district judges to reduce the project's size.
  • Arbitrator Mario Bognanno yesterday ruled that Duluth Public Works supervisor Richard LeDoux was improperly demoted last year after city crews resurfaced the city he lived on. The ruling finds the demotion was improper because the resurfacing was authorized by LeDoux's boss.
