  • The American Friends of the Christian Radich has been formed in Duluth to raise $60,000 for the tall-masted sailing ship that visited Duluth last fall. The money is needed to repair damage to the ship that occurred in a North Atlantic hurricane.

  • The Blandin Foundation announced yesterday it is giving Grand Rapids public schools a $1 million grant for the 1997-98 school year for planning and technology. Grand Rapids voters turned down four school bond referendums in 1993 and 1994.
  • Superior Water Light and Power Co. officials want to spend $1.6 million to extend a natural gas line to Solon Springs. Some propane and fuel oil dealers are fighting the plan, questioning whether Superior customers will be subsidizing the project.
