A resolution presented to the Duluth City Council yesterday calls for an increase in trash-hauling rates of 50 cents per pickup. Meanwhile, Clarence Maddy, administrative assistant, said a second increase is likely next year once the WLSSD plant is fully operational.
Winnipeg Mayor Robert Steen will lead a team of city officials into Duluth tomorrow for the Mayors International Hockey Challenge Match in the Duluth Arena. Duluth Mayor Robert Beaudin and his team will seek a third straight victory in the series.

Duluth Mayor Gary Doty's proposed 1999 budget includes an increase of three percent in the property tax levy. The additional money would pay for police officers currently paid with grants, new Parks and Recreation services, and 100 computers for the public library system.

Snowmobiles would be prohibited from using a proposed multi-use trail into Duluth following a vote yesterday by the Duluth City Council. The council voted 5-4 in favor of an ordinance preventing any motorized use of a planned extension of the Munger Trail.
