  • John Killen, chairman of the Duluth Transit Authority, said yesterday the city probably will not purchase the Twin Ports transit system if the current bus strike lasts until Dec. 15. This could leave Duluth and Superior without bus service, perhaps permanently.
  • The 1969 navigation season locally for oceangoing ships is expected to come to an end today with the departure of the Israeli bulk freighter Mezada. That would make this season the longest in the Twin Ports for oceangoing ships since 1959. News Tribune

  • The U.S. Coast Guard yesterday tried to contain leaking diesel fuel from a 180-foot cutter that ran aground off the Lake Superior coast in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. A team from Duluth has been sent to help evaluate environmental damage at the site.
  • The Douglas County district attorney said yesterday he won't take action on an open meeting law complaint filed by the Duluth News-Tribune. The newspaper objected to a closed meeting of the county's Law Enforcement Committee in October.
