* Duluth firemen announced yesterday they will not provide fire protection for Superior if firemen in that city go on strike this week. The action contradicts an earlier statement by Duluth Fire Chief Dell Leonard that help would be given if requested.

* The Duluth Port Stars of the United States Hockey League are ending their season early because of poor ticket sales, coach Connie Pleban announced yesterday afternoon. The Port Stars have a record of 3-10 this season.

* Duluth businessman William Meierhoff, owner of the Minnesota Slip in Canal Park, said yesterday he has received two letters from the city of Duluth regarding the slip's condemnation. The city is interested in permanently acquiring the Minnesota Slip.

* Four fires that authorities describe as suspicious erupted within one hour early yesterday in Duluth's Chester Park neighborhood. The fires caused an estimated $40,000 to $50,000 in damage, destroying seven cars and heavily damaging three garages.
