The Duluth City Council last night conducted its first reading of 17 resolutions authorizing about $900,000 in Model Cities contracts. The largest single item is $264,333 to be paid to the school district for work on the Get Set-Go project.

Duluth City Councilman Robert F. Eaton resigned, effective Dec. 31, at last night's meeting, citing the press of professional and personal responsibilities. Eaton, a Duluth attorney, has been a council member for nearly six years. Dec. 29, 1990<.b>

Great Lakes water levels are rising after four years of low levels, according to scientists at the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory. Heavy snowfall this winter could make flooding in low-lying areas around the lakes more likely next summer.

The attorney defending former Minnesota Viking Jim Marshall on a drug possession charge is challenging the legality of the warrant used to stop and search his car. Duluth police stopped Marshall on Nov. 29 driving near Morgan Park.
